I’m Deirdre Mullins, the Dee behind HollaDee. I guide other adventurous and truth-seeking travellers, as well as solo female travellers, on the practical side of travel. From tips on how to travel to ideas about where to go. I’m a native of Ireland and as an islander I’ve always been curious to explore beyond my home country. I trained as a nurse in my early 20s and once qualified I hit the road for two years and traveled around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. I then came to the realisation that I wanted to make travel a big part of my life. I quit nursing and became a travel journalist, TV producer, documentary maker and a nomadic adventurer. Early on in my travelling career I moved fast and ticked the boxes of ‘must do experiences’. It was during this time that I visited the majority of the 48 countries that I have been to. Now I like to travel at a much slower pace and often enjoy going solo. Pico Iyer reflected the gear shift I experienced when he wrote ‘we travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves.’ For me travel is all about connection; to the place, its people and to one’s self. In the last few years my adventures have taken a turn towards self-development. I’ve trained as a yoga teacher in India and have experienced many different spiritual practices and healing modalities. The yang to my yin is that I love to party and enjoy going to vibrant festivals or anywhere that gives me the opportunity to dance and connect with like minds. My intention is to keep exploring new places, have adventures, meet amazing people, and to learn and grow. I write about my passions including outdoor adventure, yoga, meditation, wellness, food and festivals. I hope my stories offer inspiration for more adventurous and mindful travel, while also act as a practical resource for advice and tips.
